Choosing the right equipment is key to improving your game. Use our guide to understand how club parameters affect your shots.

1. IRONS: Precision and Forgiveness

Iron selection is based on swing speed and matching shaft weight and flexibility.

A. Shaft Weight: Light or Heavy?

Shaft weight affects swing speed and club feel at impact:

  • Light shafts (50–70g): Allow for higher swing speeds; ideal for those with slower tempos or seniors.

  • Medium shafts (70–90g): A balanced choice for many players looking for a compromise between control and speed.

  • Heavy shafts (90–130g): Offer greater control and stability; ideal for players with high power and fast swings.

B. Flex (Stiffness): Matching 7 Iron Speed

Flex describes how much the shaft bends during the swing:

  • Ladies (L) & Senior (A): Ideal for speeds <70 mph. Helps to get the ball airborne.

  • Regular (R): Perfect for recreational players with an average speed of 70 – 80 mph.

  • Stiff (S) & Extra-Stiff (X): For players with high speeds of 80 – 90+ mph and an aggressive tempo.

* The above information is general. Optimal selection also depends on your individual feel and ball flight shape.

C. Choosing the clubhead

  • Players / Tour (Control): Small heads for feel and precision (T100 / T150 / P770).

  • Players Distance (Sweet Spot): Sporty look with distance technology (P790 / T200).

  • Game Improvement (Support): Large, forgiving heads (Ai300 / Launcher / Ai-Smoke HL).

2. DRIVERS: Maximum Distance

For drivers, the key is the right loft and shaft stiffness matched to higher speeds.

A. Driver Flex (Swing Speed)

  • Below 85 mph: Ladies / Senior / Light Flex. Maximum distance assistance.

  • 85 – 95 mph: Regular (R) Flex. Stability for average amateur speeds.

  • 95 – 110 mph: Stiff (S) Flex. For hard hitters, reduces ball dispersion.

  • Above 110 mph: Extra Stiff (X) Flex. Highest stiffness for PRO players with high clubhead speed.

B. Loft and Angle of Attack

  • 12° - 13.5°: Helps keep the ball in the air with a slower swing.

  • 10.5°: Standard choice for most players.

  • 8° - 9°: For powerful players who want to reduce spin and lower ball flight.

C. Head Type

  • MAX: Greatest stability (e.g., Quantum MAX, Qi4D Max).

  • LS (Low Spin): Reduces spin (e.g., Quantum Triple Diamond, Qi4D LS).

  • Draw Bias (D): Helps eliminate slices (e.g., Quantum Max D).

3. WEDGES and LIE ANGLE

  • Wedges (Bounce): Choose High Bounce (10-14°) for soft courses or if you take deep divots. Choose Low Bounce (4-6°) for hard ground.

  • Lie Angle: The correct Lie Angle ensures that the clubface contacts the ground flat, eliminating the ball veering off target from the start.
